Inverness
Today we traveled from the Isle of Skye to Inverness. The city is advertised as "the Gateway to the Highlands" and regarded as the capital of the Highlands. It is the center for commerce and industry in the Scottish Highlands. They have new investments in traditional industries and new hi-tech industries. It is also said to be one of the fastest growing cities in Europe, its population doubling over the last 20 years. A recent survey revealed Inverness to be the happiest place in Scotland.
Inverness itself attracts considerable numbers of tourists drawn to the legend of the Loch Ness Monster, which according to mythology is purported to inhabit the Loch Ness that runs to the south of Inverness. The Culloden Battlefied lies on the outskirts of Inverness. It is the scene of the final defeat of the Jacobite Rebellion in 1746 and the dashing of Bonny Prince Charlie's hopes to supplant King George II by restoring the Stuart Dynasty to the thrones of Scotland and England.
We have stayed at hotels, motels, inns, and B&B's since traveling through Scotland. Now we are renting an entire house. It is nice to have a living room, dining room, kitchen, etc. RoxAnne and Holly made an Italian pasta meal for us tonight. Then we watched movie in the living room on Netflix.
